A Vision for the Future
The revival of the historic, and much loved, Hydro Majestic Hotel at Medlow Bath was taken with a spirit and a vision like that of Mark Foy, when he began the creation of his dream on the Medlow cliff face over a century ago.
The Hydro Majestic is not only a vast hotel, stretching more than 1.1 kilometres across the escarpment; it is a part of Australian history and an iconic symbol of the Blue Mountains for generations. The ‘Hydro’ has a history and a mythology that follows the map of our nation from the time of Federation, through two world wars and now into the new millennium.
This extensive revitalisation will peel back the layers and rediscover the essence of this most famous historic holiday resort in the Blue Mountains - a time to revitalise the hotel’s facilities, interiors and gardens to a world class standard, rediscovering past glorious architectural and design aspects, recapturing atmospherics, and adding a touch of the here and now to take the building into the future.
Plans to create a world-class facility are at final stages of the DA approval process, The Hydro Majestic will again be a destination that will drive local and international tourism, and support economic growth in the Blue Mountains.
A team of highly revered heritage experts, architecture specialists and designers have been enlisted, with particular weight given to examining and respecting the Hydro Majestic’s social history and heritage. The plans add the 21st Century layer, mindful of the past, but always with a vision to the future.
Part of the strategic revision of the hotel is to view it as two major interconnecting forms:
(1) a 5+ Star Luxury Resort Hotel and Spa, at a premium rate with exclusive facilities
(2) a Luxury Conference and Business Centre with Hotel facilities, including with public lobby and facilities, accommodation with independent reception, with lookout entry and extensive car and coach parking.
A key improvement will be the luxurious, new, historically inspired interiors, which reference the past and fold into the present, expressing the glamour of Art Deco along with bold moments of now to create absolute luxury.
A suite of magnificent lobbies, bars and lounges, restaurants and fine dining locations will meet the needs of a discerning market. Foy’s initial vision for the Hydro will be revived with the creation of an international spa and treatment facility completing the dream of indulgence all day long.
Following a time of economic downturn this is a committed and confident investment in the value of the Blue Mountains and Tourism in NSW. The Hydro Majestic will be an international landmark, delivering prosperity to The Blue Mountains and continuing its history and mythology for generations to come.
